California Country Park

California Country Park is Set within 100 acres of ancient bogland and lowland heath, offering a valuable habitat for wildlife.
Visitors are encouraged to visit to enjoy the walking and wildlife opportunities. Traditional the central area of the site was used in the 19th century for brick making and in the early 1950's was developed into one of the first holiday camp destinations in England. There are two walks at the Park. The Longmoor Lake walk is 0.9 miles in length and The Woodland Walk is 2.2 miles in length. The Woodland Walk takes into the 8,000 year old Longmoor Bog on a specially constructed board walk,(now a Site of Special Scientific Interest, or SSSI, due to it's abundance of rare sedges and mosses); the Heathland (lowland heath is becoming increasingly rare in Britain); and Longmoor Lake and woodland. With open spaces and plenty of activities, whether it is the adjacent play area or the opportunity to explore the bog and heathland, California Country Park is an excellent day out. Boardwalk and laid paths provide easy access as well as protecting fragile surfaces. Interesting wildlife such as sphagnum mossess, springtime orchids, adders, and silver studded blue butterflies can be found here and on the heathland. In Summer, a paddling pool is open during the school holidays and activities such as mini beasting and woodland walks are on offer for families. A cafe and restuarant facility (California Dreaming) is open seven days a week selling ice cream and light refreshments. There is also a ceramic painting studio located within the cafe - no appointment necessary - just pop in and paint your art out! Paddling pool & play area: Play area plus large paddling pool where we ask dog owners to refrain from taking their pets. Angling: Six acre coarse fishing in Longmoor Lake. Day only fishing permits available from ticket machine in car park - £5 adults, £3 Juniors and Concessionary. Please note, the machine takes £1 coins only. Disabled access: The toilets, café and lake path are accessible. Reduced rates are available for disabled anglers. Dogs: Are welcome at California and we provide dog bins for you to use. All we request is that you respect other users of the park by keeping them under control and preventing them from fouling public areas and footpaths. Parking: A daily charge of £1 per car applies between 10am and 4pm. Pay and Display tickets are available from the Car Park Machine.
