Calling all Bike Riders
Do you ride a bike either to school, with family, partake in bicycle racing or even perhaps riding up and down your local roads surrounding where you live?

If so, have you heard of the new cycling safety award for children?

The Bikeability exam is set to replace the old-style Cycling Proficiency Test with the aim of getting you all up to the same standard of road safety.

It's also hoped that teaching about bikes will encourage more people to partake in cycling and enjoy it for fun.

The Bikeability scheme will be launched in England in April 2007. It's hoped in five years every child will be able to leave school with the award.

There are three levels to the new test:-

Level 1 - Learning to ride off the road and away from traffic
Level 2 - real cycling experience on safe roads
Level 3 - learn how to ride in different traffic conditions and some dangers.

The Cycling Proficiency Test was developed about 70 years ago. This is the first big change to the way road safety is being taught to you.
