Pantomimes in Berkshire
Pantomime is traditionally British. It seems that no other country has such a thing therefore being funny, wonderful and perhaps a little eccentric!
Pantomime was originally modelled on the early masques of the Elizabethan and Stuart days in the early 14th century. It's literally means mime in various forms and kinds (panto-mime). Traditionally Pantomimes are held around the Christmas period and are nearly always based upon well known children's stories such as Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Aladdin and even Peter Pan. Whether it is held in your local village hall produced by a local amateur dramatic production or one of the best theatres with a lavish professional performance in the land all pantomimes are equally accepted and extremely popular. With the participation of the audience from booing the villian whenever he enters the stage, to arguing with the over dramatised Dame (who is always played by a man) or by warning the Principal Boy (who is generally played by a girl) there is always plenty of communication between stage and audience. Visit our What is on page for further details of Pantomimes in your area of Berkshire. If you wish to have your Pantomine listed on Kidsinberkshire, please send details through to the Editor. Send us your experiences of Pantos you have attended. Who is the worst Panto Villian in Berkshire? How about your favourite actor, send us your story and any images and we will post them up on the website under Pantomimes for 2006. Please email Kidsinberkshire. |
